Jascel in Reflection

Born and raised in the heart of Manila, Jascel Valencia is a creative genre blending artist and composer known to the world as Nerdie and a fiery dancer within the internationally acclaimed crew Junior New System. Jascel’s professional journey started at the age of 10. Inspired by his older brother Jevin Valencia, a member of the original New System crew, Jascel joined forces with his brothers, friends, and manager Marcial Visda to continue a legacy. Together they formed Junior New System, an all-male dance crew, globally renowned for their dynamic and gravity-defying performances in six-inch heels, as seen on Asia’s Got Talent, World’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent, World Championship of Performing Arts, and many more.

When it comes to dancing, Jascel embodies every lyric and translates the emotions of the song into every move he makes. His passion for storytelling was further developed during his time as a student. While balancing his professional dance career, Jascel discovered his love for writing through his self-reflections in Filipino classes. By combining his passion for dance and writing, he realized he could compose his own music to express his own emotions and share stories, including his own, to inspire others. For Jascel, it was a humbling experience to finally create choreography for his own music, allowing him to truly express himself as the artist known as Nerdie.

One of Jascel’s original songs that is especially close to his heart is “Buga,” a powerful life anthem for dreamers that speaks about dedication, perseverance, overcoming adversity, and staying true to one’s roots. It serves as a reminder that no matter what others may say, one should remain resilient and continue pursuing their dreams, because all the hard work and sacrifices will be worth it someday.

That same passion and determination led Jascel to a major milestone in 2022, when he became one of the grand winners of Top Class: Rise to P-Pop Stardom Season 1. Following his success on the reality show, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he continues to pursue his dreams through songwriting, recording, and live performances as Nerdie, an artist dedicated to breaking stereotypes through music and creativity.
